1. Short Term Accommodation (STA) and respite can be claimed for supports and accommodation for participants who live with others including their families.
2. Your NDIS funding can cover the cost of your care in another place for up to 14 days at a time and a total of 28 days per year. You might have a short stay with other people, or by yourself. It’s often funded when your usual carers aren’t available, or for you to try new things.

3. Participants who live alone are no longer able to claim STA and respite. This is because if a participant is living alone or in a supported SIL arrangement, they already have time apart from family and informal supports.
4. Since the NDIS legislation changed on 3 October, the NDIS is reviewing STA and respite claims more closely and you may be asked for additional supporting documentation such as an initial quote or signed service agreement, booking confirmations and information regarding supports provided and activities undertaken.
5. Always check with your Support Coordinator and Plan Manager first to confirm your funding and entitlements.
